Rs 1,656 crore released for Karnataka smart cities projects by Centre and state govt

The Karnataka state and central governments have collectively released Rs 1,656 crore for the smart city projects across the state. Belagavi, Davangere, Hubballi-Dharwad, Mangaluru, Shivamogga and Tumakuru are the six cities in Karnataka selected under the Smart City project of the union ministry

The Karnataka state and central governments have collectively released Rs 1,656 crore for the smart city projects across the state. Belagavi, Davangere, Hubballi-Dharwad, Mangaluru, Shivamogga and Tumakuru are the six cities in Karnataka selected under the Smart City project of the union ministry of urban development. Out of this, Mangaluru has received Rs 216 crore including state's share of Rs 105 crore and central share of Rs 111 crore, minister for urban development Roshan Baig said in reply to a question by Mangaluru City South MLA J R Lobo in the state assembly. A sum of Rs 3.13 crore has been spent under the project in Mangaluru thus far. MLAs of the respective cities selected for the smart city project will be members of the monitoring and vigilance committees, the minister noted.
