Residents’ groups war against illegal constructions
Several residents’ groups in Sushant Lok and DLF have appealed to the government to check unauthorised constructions that have mushroomed rapidly in their areas, which often trigger power and water crises. This comes after the department of town and country planning (DTCP) cancelled the occupation certificates (OCs) of 20 houses in Suncity Township for taking up additional area in violation of building norms. Residents demanded that DTCP should conduct surveys and withdraw OCs from big builders for violations. Shabnam Afaq, a resident of Sushant Lok 1, said, “The government has authorised builders to construct only four floors but buildings with five floors and more have come up here. Also, there are servant quarters in these buildings, besides the basement.” Nandan Lal Bhat, another resident, said that builders had replaced EWS quarters with multi-storey towers where people who worked at Cyber City offices lived as tenants. “However, the infrastructure is not enough to cater to them,” he added. DTP (planning) RS Batth said, “As and when we receive complaints, the department will take appropriate action as per norms.”
