Relief in sight for owners of unauthorised structures in PimpriChinchwad
Owners of 33,304 unauthorised residential structures in the twin towns with an area of up to 600sqft each will not have to pay penalty as fines to the tune Rs 51.40 crore pending before August 2017 are expected to be waived. Besides, the penalties for 19,485 residential structures with an area between 600sqft and 1,000sqft each pending before August 2017 will be reduced by half. A senior official in the PCMC’s property tax department said following Chinchwad BJP MLA LaxmanJagtap’s announcement of the cabinet’s decision to implement its August 2017 gazette notification about reducing the penalties on unauthorised structures with retrospective effect. The state government had issued a resolution on January 2008, directing owners of the unauthorised constructions to pay civic bodies penalty amounting to twice the property tax. The PimpriChinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had started collecting the penalty from 2012-13. The resolution had also stated that the unauthorised constructions having an area from 601sqft to 1,000sqft will have to pay 50& of the penalty charges. However, owners of such buildings had to pay their penalty arrears pending before August 2017.
