Pune metro survey to cover 1,000 buildings
The Maharahstra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has started a structural integrity survey of 1,004 buildings in the Kasba Peth area ahead of work on the underground route. The survey is a key component of the pre-tunnelling work, as it helps MahaMetro get a clear picture of the status of each building and flat in a 50m-radius of the Metro route alignment. The Metro will go underground the College of Agriculture in Shivajinagar, via Kasba Peth and Mandai, and culminate in Swargate. The authority will issue a status certificate to each property holder. About 137 buildings have already been surveyed so far, with the remainder expected to take a few months to complete. MahaMetro said the chances of damage being caused to the buildings were minimal, as the tunnel-boring machine will be placed about 20m underground.
