Pune civic body fines housing societies
The corporation imposed a fine of Rs45,000 on six housing societies in Hadapsar, Mundhawa and Kondhwa under its drive against bulk garbage generators not taking measures for waste disposal. DnyaneshwarMolak, the head of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)’s solid waste management department, said, “This is the first time such an action has been taken under the new bylaws. The ward offices had issued notices to these bulk garbage generators. They were directed to take measures for garbage disposal, like mechanized composting or vermicomposting. The garbage generated from their campus is not expected to come out and cause problems to others. But these societies were not following the instructions.” Another PMC official said some of the societies penalized were in the upscale areas in Hadaspar and Mundhwa. He said the societies that faced action had at least 150 flats each. “Some have 500 flats,” he said.
