The tagging of properties in the city with geographical information system (GIS) started on Monday. Nearly 2,000 people will be deployed for the initiative, which the administration plans to complete in the next nine months. The city has around 8.3 lakh properties, of which one lakh are commercial and around 7 lakh are residential buildings. There are 29,000 open plots and the remaining 14,000 are a mix of commercial, residential and open properties. Head of the PMC's property tax department SuhasMapari said, "The city has many unassessed properties. The GIS will bring them under the tax ambit. It will boost the current revenue of the department."
