Property tax payment deadline extended at New Town in Kolkata
NKDA sources have revealed in the last 11 months, the authorities have swabbed away more than 50 crores as property tax based on the unit area assessment (UAA) system since it was introduced in New Town on April 1, 2018. The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has extended the deadline for payment of all four instalments of property tax for "residential" and "educational" premises in New Town till May 31, with zero penalty. The earlier deadline was March 31. Officials said the decision to further extend the deadline for self-assessment of property and payment of tax for the 2018-19 financial year till May 31 has been taken following requests from a number of individuals who live abroad or outside the state, stating that they needed some more time to self-assess and pay tax. Apart from residential and educational premises, for all other properties (such as commercial) that has been acquired before April 2, 2018, the last date for self-assessment and submission of tax has also been extended to May 31. But for such properties, a penalty of 10% will be charged instead of usual 30%.
