The government had made property card mandatory for all land registrations in 32 villages of Mangaluru City from February 1. However, due to complaints from public, especially from cooperative banks, the revenue department has decided to continue with the previous system for land registrations, where land owners need not submit property card till further orders. In a huge relief for those who want to sell property or avail home loans, the government has decided not to make property card mandatory for transactions for the next three months. Urban development minister U T Khader said property card will not be mandatory for land transactions for the next three months. “There are several issues in the implementation of property card system since the department lacks sufficient number of computers and the process of issuing the same also is being hit due to server errors. The issue has been discussed by the revenue department and very soon a circular will be issued postponing the implementation of property card for three months. However, land owners should apply for the property card by submitting necessary documents so that it will be made mandatory after three months,” Khader said.
