PMI Bangalore India Chapter, organized its second Project Management Symposium for Engineering and Construction industry. The conference highlighted the pressing need for advancing the knowledge, skills and competency among the project management professionals in the construction industry as the government is banking on infrastructure sector as one of the key pillars of India’s growth story. The symposium also emphasized that the core issues affecting successful completion of projects need to be identified and actionable initiatives undertaken in improving project management effectiveness in short as well as long term. Chief Guest for the Symposium, Mr Raj Kalady Managing Director, PMI India, in his Inaugural Speech stated that - “All change in an organization happens through projects and programs. When a project and program management mindset is embedded in an organization’s DNA, performance improves and competitive advantage accelerates. We need to strengthen the conversation around the importance of project management and the issues essential to improving project and business results—the right skill set, the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO), and executive sponsors. Project management processes are truly critical to bridge the chasm between high level strategic vision and successful outcomes. However, it would be startling to know that in India, organizations waste an average of 7.3% (INR 7.3 lakhs for every INR 1 crore spent on projects or programs) due to poor project performance as per PMI’s Pulse of the Profession report 2017. Hence, I strongly think that this symposium organized by PMI Bangalore India Chapter could not have come at a better time than now.”
