A public interest litigation has been filed before the Madurai bench of the Madras high court seeking court intervention to direct the state to appoint a regular chairman and members to the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA). The petitioner, A Nallathambi Raj of Virudhunagar, in his petition claimed that the TNRERA has been functioning without a full-fledged chairperson for more than a year now. The secretary for housing and urban development is functioning as the interim chairman for the authority even though a government order was issued in June 2017 for selection of chairman. The petitioner said that home buyers’ grievances in the state will be affected due to non-appointment of a chairman to the TNRERA. Admitting the petition, first bench comprising justice C T Selvam and A M Basheer Ahmed issued notice to the concerned authorities and adjourned the hearing to a further date.
