The 110 sq km of the Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has prepared the Request for Proposal (RFP) and decided to float the tender for an integrated approach of combining surveys using drone, Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) cameras, cell phones and i-tabs, which will be placed on Geographic Information System (GIS) platform. This will help in finalising land use maps and be a step towards the final master plan. LIDAR cameras will take ground-level photographs to identify change of land uses, additions or alterations. PCMC chief Sudhakar Shinde said, “Technology will reduce human interface and ensure objectivity for ready reference of buildings existing as on a certain date and year, flat occupants and the geographical location.” Advisor planning, Dinkar Samant, who has been appointed for preparing the master plan said, “Transport and eco-benchmarking surveys will follow so that we can prepare the master plan as per the existing and projected traffic volume, working population movements and ensure safeguarding and enhancing of natural resources.”
