A seven-member committee headed by the state housing secretary will oversee the implementation of concessions promised by the government for self-redevelopment of housing societies. Senior bureaucrats of the revenue and urban development departments are members of the committee, along with two experts from the housing industry. In self-redevelopment, the members of a housing society redevelop their buildings without the help of a builder. The society appoints a project management consultant, who appoints a contractor to redevelop the property. A government resolution (GR) issued by the housing department over the weekend states that all registered housing societies on government, leased and private land will be allowed to go in for self-redevelopment.
