Only 477 of 800-odd unapproved layouts cleared by Chennai development body
Of the 800-odd unapproved framework layouts sent by Greater Chennai Corporation to the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) for approval, only 477 have been cleared so far. Applicants say CMDA's delay in giving approvals has led to a tardy regularization process. Some residents also claim that approval applications submitted six months ago have not been sent to CMDA. "Until last week, I had no clue about the status of my application. There is no receipt generated or status update sent at any stage of regularization," said a resident of Porur. CMDA officials said after the local body sends a layout to the agency, it is approved without much delay. "Only some delays are there in panchayats but across corporation areas, things are fine," said an official, adding, "Of the 800-odd layouts, only 575 could be considered for regularization and 477 have been approved. "The rest have CRZ violations." According to corporation sources, every day, at least 30 files are being sanctioned and 10 regularization permits issued.
