Old DDA Colonies to Pave Way for Tall Towers
The Ministry of Union Housing and Urban Affairs will be redeveloping old Delhi Development Authority (DDA) colonies to pave way for taller buildings that have more facilities ike lifts and parking space. The process of redevelopment would be taken up in a complex only if 70 per cent or more residents living in it agree to it. The policy will be implemented only after a green signal from the house owners is received. Rental charges to be paid by authorities as the policy makes it compulsory for redevelopment authorities to pay rental charges to the house owners while the work is being conducted. The authorities said that the process might take around 3 years. Earlier, DDA colonies were low-rise due to the low floor-area ratio (FAR) but now, there is provision for more dwelling units as the FAR has been increased. Also, the colonies planned decades back had no provision for car parking as the main mode of private transport those days were two-wheelers. Redevelopment of colonies will meet the current requirements.
