Navi Mumbai’s civic body collection soars

The NMMC has collected hefty Rs 52.64 crore by way of property tax and water bill with a small amount as cess dues around Rs 2 crore in the from November 9 till November 22 since Prime minister, Narendra Modi announced demonetisation of high denomination currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1000. This the highest collection ever in such a short time with tax payers using old notes , but the government allowing for payments in old notes. The populated zone I (Vashi, Turbhe, Nerul and Belapur) has outstripped collections compared to zone 1. The NMMC will collect the taxes in old currency till Thursday midnight, as per the state government notification. Additional municipal commissioner, Ankush Chavan said, "property tax constitutes the major chunk of collection." Out of the total Rs 52.64 crore while cess dues constitute Rs 2 crore approx, water bill Rs 4.50 crore approx.
