Nashik civic body's property tax collection crosses Rs 100 crore mark
For the first time, property tax collection by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has touched Rs 100-crore mark this month. As per the latest data provided by the civic body, its property collection currently stands at Rs 104 crore, which is over 30% higher than the collection in the corresponding period of the last fiscal. However, the challenge before the civic body is to mop up another 46 crore in the remaining 18 days to meet its target of Rs 150 crore set for this fiscal. The original target for property tax collection for 2018-19 was Rs 253 crore but it was slashed to Rs 150 crore following dispute related to the new properties that were identified during a survey. In August last year, the NMC had taken action against 120 defaulters for not paying total Rs 4.5 crore that was dues of the previous fiscal. While properties of two defaulters were auctioned at a total cost of Rs 16.37 lakh, the administration sought approval of the standing committee for taking possession of the remaining 118 properties at a nominal rate of Re 1. The standing committee of the civic body has recently given its approval to change the ownership of these properties and record them in the name of the municipal corporation. As per norms, these properties will be re-auctioned twice to change ownership in the name of the NMC.
