Mumbai to Have Tree House with Sea View
After appointing a contractor for the construction of the Rs 22 crore treetop raised walkway at Malabar Hill, the BMC now wants to add another tourist attraction in the city: a tree house in a garden in Bandra (W) with a breathtaking view of the Arabian Sea. The the civic organization launched an expression of interest in the Rs 1 crore treehouse project modeled after the popular Old Woman’s shoe at Kamala Nehru Garden in Malabar Hill. The treehouse project, a brainchild of Mumbai Suburban Cabinet Minister and Guardian Minister Aaditya Thackeray, is being implemented by the City Planning Department. “The funds for the implementation of the project will come from the District Planning Development Committee (DPDC); BMC is just the executing agency,”said Kiran Dighavkar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner in charge of the planning department. “The garden, located near Fort Bandra, falls under the jurisdiction of the Maritime Council, so we take all mandatory no-objection certificates before starting work.” Officials said the structure will be constructed of timber with limited use of cement. “The treehouse concept is popular with tourists all over the world. As Mumbai does not have one, it was decided to build a two-story treehouse, also with stunning sea views, in a prominent area of the suburbs, ”Dighavkar said, adding that ‘they were exploring the possibility of using the trees on the project site. City officials have said the treehouse will be a recreational facility built from wood materials and limited use of cement. Mumbai suburban collector Nidhi Chaudhari said: “The DPDC has approved innovative projects to improve the quality of life and aesthetics in the suburban Mumbai neighbourhood including the treehouse. BMC has received funding for this work and the success of this project will be replicated in other gardens.
