"Simply put, there will not be any activity in India that will be the exclusive domain of the public sector. In every sector of economic activity, the private sector is invited," Finance Minister said. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at a virtual event hosted by USIBC highlighted that green shoots of recovery were beginning to be seen in various sectors even as the government was readying a big plan for privatisation in many sectors that previously had government presence. The statement comes after PM Modi held a slew of video conferences last week with Finance Ministry, Commerce ministry, Niti Aayog and EAC-PM. The finance minister also said a mega privatisation plan would be in the works that will reduce government’s presence in many sectors. The government’s mega privatisation is likely to open opportunities for investors in oil and gas, banking, fertiliser and insurance sector by buying a stake in public sector companies.
