Maharashtra to roll out 150 town planning schemes in two years
The state town planning department hopes to roll out 150 town planning schemes in the near future with the help of drone-based survey and Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping, officials said on Wednesday. Town planning department officials told media that all 27 municipal corporations and 250 municipal councils have been directed to come up with proposals for town planning schemes on the lines of the Mhalunge Mann town planning scheme in Pune’s Pune Metropolitan Region and the one in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. With Pune's Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) already having proposed 10 town planning schemes and another 40 in the pipeline, the state town planning department has urged 26 municipal corporations and over 200 municipal councils to come up with town planning scheme proposals that will help in the development of planned areas in the near future. Since the survey of these areas will be carried out through drones and GIS mapping, the local authorities would be able to submit proposals for these schemes faster, deputy director, town planning, Sanjay Saoji, said.
