Sensors have been installed on colonial era and other old bridges which have chances of collapsing after heavy rains and flooding. The sensors would send a sms to officials if the water level rises and reaches the danger mark. PWD Minister Chandrakant Patil informed that the sensors have been installed on selected bridges. Mr Patil also informed that repair and maintenance on bad conditioned bridges is already in progress. The government has decided to work in different phases as it would not be possible to undertake repair works for all bridges at the same time and would also increase the budget to Rs 2500 crores. Mumbai is prone to such mishaps and these measures by the civic body would certainly guard the lives of many.
