Ludhiana civic body to send notices to 600 house owners in Gandhi Nagar
Use of residential accommodation for commercial purposes without MC permission might land more than 600 house owners in Gandhi Nagar in trouble. The civic body would serve recovery notices to these people in the coming days. The building branch officials conducted a survey and found out irregularities in this area where most of the residents have converted their houses into shops or hosieries. However, this is not the only area where such practice has become a norm. The MC is conducting a survey to catch hold of defaulters in other areas too. Officials said they conducted a survey in the area a month ago and the team of building branch officials collected the details on properties in the market. Basically, it is a core area (old part of city) where commercial activity is allowed, but for that house owners have to get change of land use certificate from the MC. But here in this case, nobody obtained CLU by paying charges to the MC. Mohan Singh, assistant town planner, zone A, said, “We have compiled a report and sent it to headquarters for approval so that we could start serving notices to defaulters.” But, sources revealed that MC officials were conducting a survey in adjoining areas as well and all of the defaulters will be served notices to make payment to the MC. Areas like Balwa Nagar, Sunder Nagar, Madhopuri all come under similar category where hosiery units are running in small and congested houses. But the officials are in dilemma whether they should serve notices on defaulters at the moment or should wait for the notification of one-time settlement policy for unauthorized buildings. The final decision will be taken after getting nod from the authorities.
