The state government appears to have given up its much publicised land records updation programme (LRUP) midway. When the programme was conceived, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced that in the first phase, land records in the entire state would be sanitised followed by land survey with maps and information pertaining to the lands. While the first phase was the responsibility of the revenue department, the second phase was supposed to be carried out by the survey, settlements and land records (SSLR) department, which is also an arm of the revenue department. However, sources said the government has given up completing the land physical survey as the entire project was costing Rs 119 crore and the Centre, which promised to support the land records’ updation under the digital India land records modernation scheme, has not released any amount to the state.
