Large-scale construction activities, which had not been n Kolhapur city in recent years, are set to restart soon. The town planning department of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has received 1,468 building proposals, of which, many have been cleared. The remaining are in the final stages of clearances. Prior to this, the KMC has never received so many building proposals, including layout sanctions. The revenue figures from the town planning department confirm this trend. By December 31, 2021 — almost three months before the end of the financial year — the town planning department had already surpassed its annual revenue target of Rs 44 crore. At present, the revenue earned from the building permissions and layout sanctioning has touched Rs 45 crore, and by the end of the financial year, the department is likely to get about Rs 10 to 15 crore more. The authorities said that that the easing of the Covid situation and the relaxations given under the new Unified Development Control Rules (U-DCR ) have prompted the owners and promoters to take up the construction work again. The authorities have claimed that more plots are becoming available for construction in the city. The layouts ofof the plots with sizes as much as six to eight acre are being granted permission
