Three months after the state got an interim real estate regulatory authority, the local self-government (LSG) department has appointed T Mithra, who is now the additional secretary of the department, as the new interim authority. Mithra  succeeds B Ashok, who is being transferred. The government had appointed Ashok, urban affairs secretary, as the interim regulatory authority in March after Kerala Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (KRERA 2015) was repealed to enforce the central act, Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA). The interim regulatory authority was established based on section 20 of  RERA 2016. As per the section, the government can establish an authority to exercise the powers conferred on it and to perform the functions assigned to it under RERA.
