The issue of resettlement of families ousted from Kalyannagar cleared the final hurdle with the general board of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) clearing the proposal for ensuring completion of work at the housing scheme at the site where the settlement once existed. The VMC administration had recently brought a proposal to complete the project and take contributions towards the extra work from the beneficiaries. The proposal was passed to the general board by the standing committee. VMC had razed over 1,900 dwellings in the Kalyannagar in 2014. Those ousted were allotted houses in Sayajipura and Kalali housing schemes for the urban poor, but the residents there objected to this as the affected families from Kalyannagar were mostly from the minority community. After an agitation by Kalyannagar residents, VMC agreed that those who were not being allowed to settle in housing schemes at Sayajipura and Kalali would be given houses at Kalyannagar itself. Till the houses came up 618 families were to be paid a rent of Rs 3,000.
