Is Kerala ignoring the infrastructure opportunities?
As a model State in literacy and many of the human welfare indices Kerala tops among Indian states but in infrastructure Kerala is miserably lagging behind. Housing sector: Twelve lakh families in Kerala are without a proper shelter. A considerable number of existing houses are tumble downed and are of sub-standard quality. The initiatives of the elected Governments in the housing sector are very nominal too. The declared projects in housing sector generally meet with little success with the lack of commitment of the Civil engineers in Government service. The houses which are built in Wayanad, one of Kerala’s tourist place, are either incomplete or in a dilapidated condition because of the lack of monitoring and bad construction works without planning. The government should certainly look into the tourism opportunities, which would increase through infrastrucrure planning which in turn would bring more profits to the state termed to be ‘God’s Own Country’.
