IKEA to open first small-format city store in India in Mumbai
A city store outlet is 50,000 - 100,000 square feet, while the traditional big IKEA blue box, is typically 400,000 - 500,000 square feet. IKEA on August 24 said it will open its first city store, or smaller outlet, in India in Mumbai towards the end of 2021. The 80,000 square feet store will be a release. The store will include a restaurant and provide services such as remote planning, personal shopper and Click & Collect. Out of more than 6,00 products available at the store, 2,200 products will be available for take away and the rest will be home delivered. This will be the company's third physical store in the country, after opening large format stores in Hyderabad and Navi Mumbai. A second city store will be set up in Mumbai, IKEA said. IKEA has already set up similar stores globally in cities such as Paris, Moscow and Shanghai. "IKEA believes strongly in the Indian market potential and there will be further store openings in the next year," the company said in a statement.
