The Huda on Saturday cleared around 15 acres of prime land in sector 38, 47 and 53 worth hundreds of crores. Huda razed around 250 jhuggies and around dozen structures to clear the land. The anti-encroachment drive was carried out by Huda after getting a favourable order from Punjab and Haryana high court on December 5. The court had dismissed eight petitions of land owners challenging the acquisition of the land, which was cleared on Saturday. Huda estate officer-II Vivek Kalia said authority had acquired this land long back and it has remained undeveloped. After passage of new land acquisition act in 2014 many land owners had filed petitions before the high court to nullify the acquisition. The petitions were filed in 2015 under section 24(2) of the new land acquisition act of 2014 which says that the land acquisition will nullify if the land remained unutilised for more than 5 years. “All these petitions were filed in 2015 and after long legal battle now the Punjab and Haryana High Court has passed order in favour of Huda,” Kalia said. He adding that clearing of the land will help in speedy development of the sectors. The lands which were cleared on Saturday were earmarked for group housing societies, school and colleges. Auction of these lands would fetch a good amount.
