Housing Scheme Launched In Mizoram

The chief minister's rural housing scheme under the flagship programme New Economic Development Policy (NEDP) across the state was launched by Mizoram rural development minister R. Lalzirliana on Tuesday. The chief minister's rural housing scheme was designed especially for underprivileged families in rural villages. The rural development department is the nodal agency and the assistance would be disbursed to the beneficiaries through the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) through the department. Under the leadership of the respective deputy commissioners, district-level selection committees have been constituted of all the district headquarters to select the beneficiaries. The chief minister's rural housing scheme was earlier launched in 2016-17 in three districts - Serchhip, Lawngtlai and Saiha -and Rs 6 crore had been spent for the purpose. Later during the fiscal 2017-18 Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the implementation of the scheme in all eight districts. Altogether 499 beneficiaries have been selected from Aizawl district, 415 from Champhai district, 619 from Lunglei district, 300 from Mamit district, 167 from Kolasib district, 200 from Serchhip district and 500 each from Lawngtlai and Siaha districts.
