Praveen Thampi, one of the few lighting consultants worldwide specializing in Innovative & Sustainable Office Lighting Techniques by Blending the ASHRAE Standards, CIBSE LG7 Guidelines & IGBC LEED Standards briefed on the evolution of lighting design, products and systems in the office spaces over the years. He elaborated on the difference between human centric lighting that impacts the various aspects of occupants work life and and circadian lighting that influences the biological clock of the human beings.  Praveen Thampi was of the view that Indian lighting industry has progressed leaps and bounds and is in many ways ahead of European counterparts. One of the main reasons according to him was the IT and ITeS industries that needed efficient and sustainable lighting systems for employee productivity and comfort during working shifts. Also, in his opinion, the architects, designers and project managers still lacked awareness about the correct lighting designs and the importance of integrating them within appropriate space designs.  Partha Karmakar, Business Head for Professional Lighting, Havells Group agreed that while, as manufacturers they were developing products based on research, many a times, clients and even architects did not grasp the importance of human centric lighting. He also elaborated on the various initiatives being taken by the company in bringing all stakeholders of the industry together to curate products beneficial to the end users. The speakers concluded the session by saying that Smart is the future of buildings and cities and wellness is not only about human centric products but human centricity should be a way of life for building products and systems.
