MCG will auction around 102 properties on December 28 for non-payment of property taxes by owners. According to a senior MCG official, most of the properties, which are spread across four zones of the district, are commercial properties. The amount pending has been kept as the reserve price for the auction under Section 130 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act. For instance. if a property has Rs 1 lakh tax dues, the reserve price for the auction will be Rs1 lakh. “The property owners, however, have the option of clearing the dues before the auction date to get back their property,” said an MCG official. He further said that the MCG would continue to seal properties whose taxes have not been paid. A good number of these properties are at some well-known addresses, such as MGF Mall, MG Road, DLF Galleria and DLF Corporate Greens. Going by the reserve price, the cost of the properties to be auctioned is around Rs 30 crore. Parties interested in bidding for the properties have to register themselves with MCG at Huda Gymkhana Club, the place of auction. After the completion of the bid, the bidder will have to pay 50% of the bidding amount at the spot. The MCG has been continuously issuing notices to owners for pending property tax payments and sealing the properties as well. It had also conducted a similar auction in November and auctioned four properties of property tax defaulters worth Rs 3.88 crore. Around 100 people had taken part in the auction process that was held in Huda Gymkhana Club. Five properties were up for bid during the auction. However only four properties had been auctioned as the property owner for the fifth one had paid the taxes and released his property. The MCG had sealed more than 519 properties in Gurgaon till June 2017 after the property owners failed to pay the property taxes.
