The state legislative assembly on Thursday passed the Goa Land Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill, 2018, which will empower the government to take action against the landfilling in eco sensitive areas and restore them. The other two bills passed in the assembly are the Goa Regularization of Unauthorized Construction (Amendment) Bill, 2018, and The Goa Requisition and Acquisition of Property Bill, 2017. Stating that the Goa Land Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill, 2018, was a very important and beneficial legislation, revenue minister Rohan Khaunte said the bill will benefit mundkars. The Goa Land Revenue Code permits the district collector to take action against illegal filling of low lying areas. While pointing out that during the last couple of years many agriculture lands have been filled, Khaunte said that when authorities take action, people approach the court and the case gets stuck, leading to destruction of the fields.
