GHMC contractors not keen to construct
Despite promising to build more than a lakh two-bedroom houses for poor in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, so far work began on construction of only 944 such apartments at four locations in the city - Syed Sab Ka Bada (48), Bandlaguda (176) Yerukala Nacharamma Nagar (432) and Singam Cheruvu (176). This was disclosed by D Shiva Kumar, GHMC's superintending engineer in response to a Right to Information (RTI) query filed by a city-based activist, P Suresh. "It will not be a surprise that at the current pace, it will take a decade to start work on all the sanctioned 1.08 lakh two-bedroom houses or apartments in GHMC limits promised by the government. And there is no fixed deadline for each allotted work," Suresh said.
