Forest encroachers to get rehabilitation on Aarey land
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has said the state government will rehabilitate encroachers at Sanjay Gandhi National Park on 90 acres of land inside Aarey at Marol-Maroshi. Encroachers will be rehabilitated alongside tribals in Aarey on land owned by the park. While 50 acres are reserved for rehabilitation of tribals, the rest will be used for slum-dwellers. At a meeting with NCP legislator Vidya Chavan, who has been following up the issue of rehabilitation with the government, attended by officials from the forest department and urban development department, Fadnavis said all encroachers up to 2011 will be rehabilitated. Vinod Tawde, guardian minister for suburbs, was also present at the meeting. Those who came after 2000 will have to pay a transfer fee to be eligible for free housing. The encroachers are spread from Borivali to Malad in the western suburbs and Mulund in the eastern suburbs.
