GroupL Connect, the facility management (FM) conference held on May 26 in Mumbai was hosted by GroupL, a Kolkata based FM provider company. Held annually, the conference strives to share knowledge and deliberate on issues faced by the FM sector. The Mumbai conference this year was attended by FM Service providers, Corporate Real Estate Heads and end-users. They discussed the role of FM in a Connected World. Col. A Mishra, Senior General Manager, Tata Consulting Engineers raised the question of FM being more sector or service line based service. He contended that FM service is a business enabler and makes an immediate impact on an organizations business and bottom line. Gary Grover, VP – Administration, HDFC Life emphasized that collaboration between the client and the FM provider can brings value by aligning FM services to the organisation’s strategic goals. Supporting the statement Ashit Luthra, Chairan Group L added that while, up scaling the technologies for facility management, also mandatory is up skilling of workforce. He felt much more awareness of the sector is required in India, where FM sector is prevalent only in metros and some parts of Tier-I cities. Angad Luthra Managing Director, GroupL concluded the session with his analysis of future FM business models given the rise of automation and robotics and what makes a good FM & how should the next generation of facilities professionals be trained. While talking to Realty Plus, the attendees concurred that certifications for FM professionals at the lowest level and setting of benchmarking & standards as per Indian conditions are the need of the hour.
