Families to lose homes as ‘illegal’ building razed
At least a hundred residents spilled onto the streets to protest as municipal officials started demolishing parts of a building in Nandivli locality in Kalyan on Wednesday morning, claiming that the structure is illegal. The residents protested as officials of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation went about tearing down two ground-plus-seven storey buildings in Balaji Complex. Their contention was that if the structures are illegal, how did they receive a subsidy of over Rs 2 lakh in home loan under the Pradhan MantriAvasYojana scheme.
