CREDAI Requests Govt Help in Return of Migrant Labour
In letters addressed to the Maharashtra Government and Indian Railways, CREDAI MCHI, an industry body with over 1800+ member developers has urged the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Uddhav Thackeray and the Railway Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal to help provide necessary logistical means for migrant construction workers to return to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). With more than 75% of migrant workers still stuck in their native regions with minimal avenues to return, the dearth of labourers is aggravating the ongoing industry slowdown and proving to be a major pain point for real estate developers to resume construction activities and revive the realty sector in MMR. In order to curtail the issue, CREDAI MCHI has requested the State Government and Indian Railways to provide the necessary logistical support in order to get the workers back primarily from states including UP, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha, thereby enabling resuming of work. The body stated that developers have set up safe environment at the construction sites With Real Estate and Infrastructure largely considered to be the backbone of the Indian economy, the industry requires more definitive support from the eco-system, the developers urged.
