CP Kukreja Architects acquires the India arm of Chicago-based design firm dbHMS
India’s frontline Architectural firm CP Kukreja Architects has acquired the India arm of Chicago based renowned design firm dbHMS. The Indian arm of dbHMS has two verticals – sustainability and Engineering designs. They have been leading the innovative engineering and green building movement in India. It is a historic moment in Indian Architecture sector where for the first time ever an Indian design firm has acquired an International design firm. The deal will redraw the architecture landscape in India as CP Kukreja Architects expand its operations and further focus on sustainable infrastructure with dbHMS’ expertise. It will also give a massive boost to the firm’s vision of environmental friendly buildings which in India have received limited attention. Also, following the announcement for building next-gen infrastructure – physical as well as social, this acquisition is a testament to the Government’s move towards making a better living for tomorrow. The company is known to be one of the most innovative engineering firms in the world. They started their operations in India from 2010 and were a part of many prestigious projects including the Aqua Tower, an 82-story mixed-use residential skyscraper in the Lakeshore East development in downtown Chicago, Illinois. Also, in India, the organization had been an integral part in designing the renowned Nalanda University, IIT Gandhinagar amongst others. According to the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), the overall Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) received in Construction Development sector between April 2000 and June 2018 was around $25 billion. The Infrastructure sector plays a pivotal role in the Indian economy and through carefully designed Government initiatives can immensely contribute to the country’s overall development.
