Chennai Is Second Greenest City For Real Estate In India
Chennai has added another feather in its cap and is now the second greenest city for real estate in India. This is the second achievement of the city after the Chennai Central railway station became fully powered by solar energy. According to a study by property consultant Knight Frank, India's national capital, Delhi, is the greenest city for real estate and ranks 63rd globally, the only Indian city in the global top 100. However, Chennai is way ahead of other Indian cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad and is ranked 224 globally for green cities in real estate. From well-developed public transport networks to urban green space to the number of green-rated buildings, these cities were measured on various parameters, reported The New Indian Express (TNIE). Srinivas Anikipatti, Senior Director of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Knight Frank said that the global green ranking of Chennai is based on carbon emissions. The public transport of Chennai gives it an upper hand as it has a good network of metro, buses, mini buses, MRTs and local trains and they play a key role in establishing a strong connectivity. Anikipatti further added that Chennai has a high green cover and has more green buildings as compared to other cities. "Many places in the city, such as IIT-Madras, Loyola College and Theosophical Society have sufficient green cover and have large green pockets. Apart from this, the Chennai Municipal Corporation is increasing the carbon sink coming out with new parks," he said.
