Chandigarh civic body panel proposes 10% hike in house tax
A municipal corporation (MC) committee has recommended 10% hike in tax on residential properties in the city in a move that could add another financial burden on city residents. The recommendation of the House Tax Assessment Committee will come up discussion in the form of agenda in the MC house meeting on Wednesday. The agenda reads, “To increase 10% property tax on residential property tax”. Tax on residential properties was first imposed in 2013-14 and has not been reviewed since. As the collector rates in respect of residential properties have been revised twice since 2012, the committee has recommended the hike. The MC had also increased the rates of property tax on commercial, industrial and institutional land and buildings by 10% in the current financial year.
