Chandigarh administration seeks penalties on traders for violating building bylaws
The UT administration has sought details of penalties imposed on traders for violating building bylaws in the commercial areas of the city. The UT had sought a report from the estate office for the same as it had prepared a draft to approve need-based changes in the commercial areas of the city. Sources said the details would be incorporated in the draft. After incorporating the details, the draft will soon be placed before the senior UT officials for approval. As per the draft, the administration has proposed to grant permission for additional covered area on the first and second floors of the SCFs and SCOs in Phase I on the pattern of Phase II. Sources revealed that the estate office had submitted to the UT administration that there were violations like removing internal walls in the SCOs, using basements for other activities instead of storage, and construction of upper floors on bay shops and booths in the commercial areas.
