Bylaws to be tweaked in Ghaziabad to allow alterations in houses
The Ghaziabad Development Authority has decided to relax building bylaws governing the setback rules, which will allow local residents to make minor alterations in their houses. It has also approved the conversion of the proposed multi-level parking at Rajnagar District Centre into a mechanized parking with a PPP model being brought in for its construction. These were among the 45 proposals approved at the board meeting of Ghaziabad Development Authority on Friday. Out of the 45 proposals, 37 were passed without any changes while six were approved with modifications. The remaining were rejected. “The building bylaws prohibit any kind of changes in the houses constructed by the GDA. However, over a time, it was realised that minor alterations were required due to growing population. The new decision will benefit thousands of residents who have been living in these buildings for years but were barred from undertaking renovations that did not conform to building bylaws,” said Kanchan Verma, vice-chairperson, GDA. For the multi-level parking, the GDA had unsuccessfully invited tenders. After studying the efficacy of underground multi-level parking, the criteria was changed to multi-level mechanised parking. The facility will have a ground floor plus six floors and will be able to accommodate 600 four-wheelers. The board has also given its nod for banquet halls in residential areas, but with a rider that it should not be along trunk road and should not disrupt traffic movement.
