Buyers protest against Sumer Buildcorp
Residents of the 80-year-old Tambawala Building in Mazgaon have resorted to an unusual protest to condemn the actions of a developer who has allegedly not followed the directions of the Supreme Court. They have displayed the ‘clear-cut’ orders of the apex court on a banner which states that the developer needs to provide alternate transit accommodation, and till such time, they cannot be evicted. Since last June, the 60-odd tenants of Tambawala Building have been at loggerheads with Sumer Buildcorp Pvt Ltd, which took up the redevelopment of the cess building supervised by the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board (MBR&RB) of MHADA. In June, 2018, the MBR&RB had served eviction notices, but the Bombay High Court had stayed the action. The legal dispute eventually went to the Supreme Court.
