At Siddharth Nagar in Bavdhan Budruk, construction work at a site is on in full swing, where eight 13-storeyed buildings and several rowhouses are proposed. But at the entrance of the site is a white flex board that reads: “An appeal to prospective buyers. We wish to alert people looking to buy homes in Bavdhan gram panchayat area that they are doing so at their own risk. Builders here sell flats and disappear without providing basic amenities such as water, drainage and roads. Residents subsequently approach the gram panchayat demanding the infrastructure. Be warned that we are in no position to fulfil such demands and cannot be held responsible for them.” The same banner was spotted at three other sites at Bavdhan Budruk, where several projects are underway. “We are being harassed by complaints from several plush societies in the area such as Nyati Equatorial and Pebbles II, among others, who have been left high and dry by their builders, without water supply or proper sewage linkages. They are now turning to us to resolve their problems. It is difficult for us to address such issues from all properties coming up in the village, so we felt compelled to forewarn investors,” Piyusha Dagade Patil, the sarpanch told Media. There are at least some 10 realty projects under construction in the village of similar proportions as the one at Siddharth Nagar, that are expected to add another 5,000 flats to the area. This is beyond th e 30 already constructed and many more sites marked for future development. The gram panchayat is clearly ill-prepared to handle the population explosion.
