Brigade Group unveils India’s largest living Biowall at BRIGADE OPUS
Brigade Group, one of India’s leading developers has created India’s largest living Biowall at Brigade Opus, a LEED Gold pre-certified Grade-A commercial office space in Hebbal, Bangalore. Strategically located on International Airport road, the city’s growth corridor, Brigade Opus is well connected to the Central Business District. The recently completed project is available for lease and is quickly getting occupied by large multi-nationalcompanies. TheBiowall at Brigade Opus is all set to take over the conventional glass facades of Bangalore. A living walls or Green wall is vegetation growing on or against a vertical surface. This shining example at Brigade Opus is a structure of magnificent height and scale. Measuring 16 m H x 25 m W, i.e., 400 sq. meters which is currently India’s largest, this bio-wall houses seven different species of plants such as Foxtail Fern, moses-in-the-cradle,,Lilyturf, Mondo Grass, Pandan Screw Pine, and Money plant, with with a total of 15,750 plants. The biowallwasn’t created just for aesthetics. Apart from its visual appealit will have direct positive impact on the tenants by keeping the interiors of the building cooler and improving the air quality around it. The living wall can be automated and monitored with natural air purification and humidification. It also functions as Brigade Opus’s very own natural air filtration system. Living Green walls make a breathtaking statement by creating alluring and inviting environments. They are as equally impressive in appearance as they are purveyors of good health; the plants in the walls work as a natural air-filtration system that building occupants can enjoy. Employees are greeted by a green lush environment while savoring the soothing effects of being around an abundance of foliage. Living Green walls are natural air-filters, creating a cleaner, more invigorating work environment that will lead to better overall employee health and production. Officer workers are often exposed to air toxins in their work environment such as formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, VOCs and benzene. Living green walls metabolize harmful toxins while releasing oxygen into the workplace air, much like office plants but on a much larger scale. The vertical column of lush greenery is a pretty sight for sore and weary eyes; so much so that passersby on NH7 heading to, and from the Bangalore Airport, slow down to catch a glimpse. A brainchild of Mr Jaishankar, Chairman and Managing Director, Brigade Group, this Greenwall has been the talk of the town since its unveiling with many vehicles slowing down, just to catch a glimpse of this masterpiece. The aluminium frame, biowall plant installation and independent modules are designed in a way that the Greenwall also features Brigade Group’s logo, which signifies scaling new heights, upward and onward towards the sun. Considering the challenges of urban living, and to address the space constraints, Mr Jaishankar devised the idea of this Biowall, which sets a great example for effective space utilisation. In addition, the biowall is testimony to Brigade Group’s commitment to ‘Building Positive Experiences’. The sustainable design of the Greenwall takes environmental engineering concepts to the next level. The Greenwall has all systems in place, including recycling, rainwater harvesting and ensures zero wastage of water. The Drip Irrigation system consists of the Main line, lateral pipes, drippers and misters supported by an overhead fresh water tank, with automatic timed sprinkler systems and dust misters to keep the Greenwall clean, fresh and constantly rejuvenated with the help of an by irrigation sprinkler system with a filter and fertilization unit supported by a 2000 liter fresh water tank. By maximizing both quality and quantity of the plants on the Biowall, there will be more photosynthesis in general taking place. This means that more carbon dioxide in the building would be converted to oxygen (which we want). To keep this, it should be ensured that the plants wouldn’t have to “compete” for food or light, so these should be sufficiently provided to the plants by the state of the art irrigation sprinkler system and exposure to natural sunlight. The water system is designed and engineered keeping in mind constant recycling, rainwater harvesting and no wastage of our most precious resource. Brigade Group’s Greenwall at Brigade Opus is indeed one of a kind masterpiece of design, architecture and urban agriculture.
