The BMC is tightening its grip on tax defaulters and is planinng to attach 25 properties for non-payment. Last week, the BMC cut off water connections to seven premises for defaulting on property tax. The civic body us exert pressure on defaulters who owe the BMC taxes worth Rs 216 crore. Among the prominent defaulters are National Sports Club (Rs 66 crore), Amir Park Amusement (Rs 17 crore), HDIL (Rs 12 crore) andVidhi Realtors (Rs 12 crore). Civic officials said they earlier issued notices to defaulters, but they failed to clear dues, which forced them to initiate this process. Officials stated that they examined all records and initiated the process to attach properties on which tax had been defaulted. They sought the legal department's assistance and decided to cut water supply of defaulters whose dues are not more than Rs 1.5 crore.
