Bill passed to simplify tax in Kolkata
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill 2016 was passed in the West Bengal Assembly today to simplify the assessment and collection of property tax and make the entire process more transparent. State's Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim said that it was necessary to amend the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Act, 1980 to empower the KMC to limit the increase as well as decrease in property tax to a certain extent under Unit Area Assessment system from the present system of assessment by applying a cap on it.
