District magistrate Md Sohail had directed the block development officers (BDOs) of the districts to prepare a list of homeless and submit the same on Monday. Narrating the details, the DM said, “A review meeting was held following a state government directive to give money to the people who neither have land nor a house to live in. The CM had announced to pay Rs 60,000 each as assistance to homeless people to purchase land so that houses could be built for them under PM Awas Yojana (PMAY).” The DM added that land will be available to identified families within three months, however, construction of houses will be completed in the next four months. “A format for preparing the list has been sent to the BDOs through the office of District Rural Development Authority (DRDA). Once the lists are here, an inclusive report will be prepared and sent to the state government for approval,” he said. It may be mentioned here that no registration fee would be charged on the purchase of land under the new scheme called CM homestead land assistance scheme, which is aligned with the CM Gramin Awas Yojana. The list of beneficiaries of the homestead land assistance scheme are prepared on the basis of the socio- economic caste census. “According to an earlier report, there are 1,423 homeless families in the district,” said DRDA director Jyoti Kumar.
