Disgruntled residents of Purab Premium Apartments in Sector 88, Mohali, have knocked the doors of Panjab housing and urban development minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and filed a complaint against Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gmada) alleging that the body forced them to take possession of flats without giving occupancy and completion certificates to the allottees. The allottees have alleged that Gmada started giving possession of the incomplete project from July. The project quality was compromised. There were several defects in the properties, but Gmada still gave the possession to the residents. Gmada argued that the body was exempted from handing over completion certificates before giving possession of flats under Section 44 of the Punjab Apartments Act and Property Regulation Act. Whereas, the residents criticized Gmada of twisting the act as per its whims and fancies and backtracking what was promised in the brochure. The society comprises as many as 1,620 flats, out of which 800 have been allotted. While possession of 600 flats has already been given, around 600 flats are still under construction.
