The Ghaziabad Development Authority has sent a revised list of 200 illegal or unauthorised colonies in the district to the stamp and registration department to stop their registration. In the original list, there were 321 colonies, out of which the names of 121 colonies were subsequently removed due to wrong addresses or ambiguous mention of places or other details. “The GDA, which sent the revised list, has struck off 121 colonies. As a result, only 200 colonies remain in the list which are, as of now, could be termed illegal and unauthorised,” said the official. He, however, added that the GDA has been asked to rework on the omitted colonies so that in future it could be assimilated in the final list. The GDA, on other hand, claimed that since the list of illegal colonies is vast and spread across eight zones, it will be needing some time to do away with the inaccuracies in terms of details of the omitted colonies. “It will take time to update it as per the needs of the stamp and registration department,” said a GDA official. The stopping of registries in illegal colonies has not gone down well with the tehsil bar association. In fact, a case has been filed at Allahabad high court, terming the move on the part of administration as illegal. “The court was due to hear the case on Friday. Now, it will be heard on Januaray 4,” said association’s office-bearer, LomeshBhati. “In the meantime, we are not allowing any registries as a mark of protest,” said Bhati.
